At a session of the board in May (1873), the building committee was authorized to purchase lots six and seven in block forty-four, of Patrick McGreevy, at a cost not to exceed $5,000; they were also directed to advertise for bids on the same. In July, the contract of completing the stone work on the basement of the Court House was let to Pfieffer & Co., for the sum of $9,615. The bid of(J. M.) Babcock & (G. S.) Woodruff was accepted. The finishing touches are now being put upon the new court house, and the next May term of court will be held in the finest and best appointed court room in the State. The clock for the tower is now on the way here, which is one indication of a “good time coming.” The clock is of the Howard Co. manufacture, with one of Meneely’s best 600 pound bells, and dials six and one-half feet in diameter.
