The 1860 United States census showed George Weist (age 12, born in Ohio) living with his parents Michl (age 40, born in Germany, farmer) and Barbara (age 31, born in Germany) in Cynthian Townshp, Shelby County, Ohio. His other siblings were Frederick (age 17, born in Ohio), Mary (age 14, born in Ohio), William (age 10, born in Ohio), and Andrew Weist (age 5, born in Ohio).
George Wiest was married to Maria Anna Burgstahler on October 5, 1873.
The 1880 United States census showed George Weist (age 33, born in Pennsylvania, brick maker) married to Mary (age 25, born in Indiana) and living in Chaska, Minnesota. Children Frederik (age 6, born in Minnesota), Hubert (age 2, born in Minnesota), and Albert (age 1, born in Minnesota) also lived with the couple.
George Wiest was born in 1848, and is a native of Pennsylvania. While yet a babe he accompanied his parents to Cincinnati, Ohio, where they remained three years, then came to Chaska. His father, Michael Wiest, died here in 1866. In 1872 George began brickmaking, which trade he has since followed. Miss Mary Burghler became his wife in 1873. Four of their five children are living. George Wiest died September 23, 1887, in Kelso, Sibley County, Minnesota. He was buried in St. Johannis German Lutheran Cemetery in New Rome, Sibley County.
Barbara Oettinger Wiest was born November 18, 1819, and died March 15, 1894. She was the wife of Michael Wiest, who died in Chaska, Minnesota. Barbara is the mother of Fredrick, Mary, George, William, and Andrew Wiest.
