There is little doubt that the body of the man found recently in the bushes on the bank of the Mississippi river near St. Peter is that of Charles Butler, a former Winona contractor. (The Minneapolis Journal, Friday Evening, October 17, 1902, Page 17)
Identity of Remains Found on the River Bank Near St. Peter. Special to The Globe. Winona, Minn., Oct. 16. – There is little doubt that the remains of the man found in the bushes on the bank of the Minnesota river, near St. Peter, are those of Charles Butler, a former well known Winona contractor. He left Winona about a year ago to make his home with a daughter, Mrs. Chappell, near Kasota. The identification is not complete, but the circumstances point to the remains being those of Butler, who left his daughter’s home in July, and has not been seen or heard of since.
