Schroeder Rites Held Yesterday

Adolph C. Schroeder died at his home in Shakopee at 6:30 a.m. Sunday [December 11, 1949] at the age of 65.  He had been ill for some time.  Death was attributed to cirrhosis of the liver.

Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon at 2 p.m. in St. John’s Lutheran church here with Rev. J. H. Kolberg, pastor, officiating.  Burial was in the family cemetery.

Pallbearers were R. L. Brown, Otto Siems, Reuben Groll, Erwin Haferman, Arnold Salg, and W. B. Schroeder.

The son of Herman and Maria Reineke Schroeder, Adolph was born in Shakopee on May 5, 1884.  He graduated from the Shakopee high school and then attended Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, receiving the degree of Bachelor of Arts at the commencement there in 1907.

After his graduation he served as assistant treasurer of the college while he studied for his master’s degree which he received in 1910.  While there he was associate editor of College Breezes and was a member of the honorary literary circle.

From 1898 to 1902 he was employed in his father’s brickyard and from 1902 to 1906 worked in his father’s hardware, feed and implement business.  From 1906 to 1922 he was a partner with his father in the family brick and lime manufacturing business and since 1922 has operated the Schroeder Brick and Fuel company.  The business was established by his father in 1876 and is still operated on the same site today.

Always active in politics, he was a leader in the affairs of the Republican party in this vicinity.  From 1909 until 1912 he served as a member of the Shakopee city council.  He was a member of the Northwestern Coal dealers Association and the Shakopee Commercial Club.

On April 18, 1923 he was married to Miss Marie D. Keup at Belle Plaine.  He is survived by his wife, and two sisters, Emily and Anna.
